LAHORE: Pakistans top tennis Junior, Samir Iftikhar continued his winning ways in ITF Amman Open Junior tournament moving into the ultimate showdown defeating Italys Kevin Alboneti in straights 6/2, 6/4 at Sports City tennis stadium in Amman, Jordan on Friday. Sensational Samir who won his careers first doubles title last week is now just a step away from winning his single title, said the information made available here. "Now comes the most challenging stage of the event and there is no way out but to exhibit much improved performance to turn my dreams into reality for winning a singles title", said Samir after the match.He said playing the final is always a nerve wrecking and full of pressure event. The 7th Seeded Italian had earlier had upset Arjun Kandhe of India in the quarter finals and reached singles finals of the first leg of ITF Amman open. Samir displayed brilliant return of serves and passing shots powerful and broke his opponent serves twice in the 5th and 7th games and teased the Italian player with his sizzling serves to win the first set. The Italian put up some resistance in the second set by holding serves till 4 games each when Samir broke him with magnificent back hand down the line passing shot at break point to lead 5/4 and held his serves 2 aces to clinch the set and match. Samir, grand son of Pakistans legendary, Khawaja Iftikhar Ahmad (late) and son of national Davis Cupper,Tayyab Iftikhar has showed immense tennis talent by putting up good performances in ITF Jr tournaments abroad. He will face Tom Diedrich of Luxemburg in the finals.He is the second Pakistani players Aisam ul Haq to represent the country at the Australian Junior Open Grand slam in January 2010.
